Revisit Sagirah’s commitments in defining success with HSCT (S5 replay)

Warrior: Sagira Ahmed Norris
AI: Multiple Sclerosis
HSCT: January 2020
Superpower: flexibility

Are you someone who prefers to schedule a plan for every detail in life?

After first being diagnosed, Sagira found herself more driven than ever to complete life goals ahead of schedule while she was able, including travel to foreign countries to run marathons. Once her symptoms began matching what her doctor projected for her years down the road, she happened upon HSCT by chance while in Europe. After returning home, Sagira did more research and then talked with her doctor, only to be told that HSCT wasn’t an option for her, particularly the kind of HSCT that involved leaving the country.

Tune in to learn more about how Sagira defined her path to HSCT, the flexibility she gained throughout her experience, and whether she qualified for the Boston Marathon even before her one-year HSCT birthday.

Join us in meditation of loving kindness to honor healthcare workers and find a sense of calm

Warrior: everyone
Superpower: Loving kindness meditation

Have you wanted to express gratitude for all the healthcare professionals who are on the front lines, responding with care for individuals battling life threatening illness? Do you know how to find calm within a state of stress and anxiety?

HSCT Warriors Podcast S4.Ep. 10 (1)

In this special episode, join our host zen Jen and her lifelong friend Jessica in a guided meditation practice to extend gratitude and loving kindness to healthcare professionals and others on the front lines of the covid-19 pandemic.

Founder of the Radically Rooted Yoga and Lifestyle Center, Jessica Lichaa started exploring the integration of body practices through yoga in 1999 and over time has developed an emphasis on cultivating autonomic regulation through the fascia of the body. The practices led by Jessica have helped many individuals to improve the stress and trauma induced holding patterns within the tissues of the body to cultivate healthier ways of dealing with the emotional responses of life and improve overall well being.

In September of 2016 Jessica Lichaa developed a unique yoga teacher curriculum focused on neuroscience, early childhood psychology, body awareness, mindfulness, and self-compassion practices.  She integrated timeless ancient techniques with current research in neuroscience and developed a highly acclaimed yoga teacher training, that not only emphasizes asanas, philosophy and pranayama, but also manual tissue movement to assist the body in accessing the relaxation response, to foster deeper states of homeostasis, and awaken one’s immune system to detox the cellular matrix of free radicals.

The guided meditation featured in this episode can be practiced by anyone at any time to find a sense of calm and connection to self and others, and cultivate gratitude for all the healthcare professionals who are caring for so many who are battling covid-19. May we feel safe and protected… may we be happy… may we be healthy… may we be free from pain and suffering.

Feel free to reach out for more information or to learn more about the practices or music highlighted in this episode. Find hope in the power of patience along Craig’s journey to HSCT (Ep. 40)

Warrior: Craig Witkowski
AI: Multiple Sclerosis
HSCT: September 2019 in Puebla
Superpower: Patience

Do you find it tough to maintain patience with yourself or doctors? How easily do you find a positive mental outlook? How tightly do you hold on to hope?

HSCT Warriors Podcast S4.Ep. 4

After being on a first-line drug to hold off initial onset of his MS symptoms, Craig found benefit for a few years until he stopped the medication due to unwelcome side effects.  After changing careers, he spent some time without any sign of the disease until Craig was suddenly blind-sided by an experience while driving that left him nearly paralyzed. Without much explanation other than progression of his MS, he started on another disease-modifying-treatment that didn’t touch the continued progression and caused additional unwelcome side-effects.

Craig researched more about stem cell treatments because his doctors could only offer vague uncertainties and although he found Dr. Burt’s clinical trial at Northwestern, after spending a year fighting insurance to pursue HSCT, Craig learned his disease had progressed enough to leave him ineligible for the study criteria. Not willing to give up hope, Craig traveled from Chicago to Texas for a presentation about Clinica Ruiz and was sold on the possibilities that HSCT at Clinica Ruiz offered.

Tune in  and learn more about Craig’s unique challenges, fundraising efforts, power of patience, tremendous support of family and friends, and will to find his way to HSCT at Clinica Ruiz in Puebla, Mexico.
